Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are your fees? Do you take insurance?

I currently charge $135 hourly for out-of-network clients and coaching clients. Therapy clients must live in Illinois or New Mexico where I am licensed. Coaching clients can be loacted anywhere.

I take insurance from Aetna and Cigna. If you have a different private insurance provider, there is a good chance that your insurance will provide some compensation for out-of-network providers.

I'd be happy to provide you with a statement (superbill), that you can submit to your insurance company to seek reimbursement of fees already paid.

I recommend contacting your insurance company to determine your coverage for out-of-network reimbursement. Many of my clients also use their Health Savings Accounts to pay for therapy.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

Any late cancellations or no-shows will result in a $25 missed/late session charge, with the exception of a true emergency (life happens!). Late cancellation is defined as a cancellation less than 24 hours before the time your session is scheduled to begin.

If we are able to reschedule for an alternate time within the week, the fee will be waived.

If there is a pattern of frequent late cancellations and/or missed sessions (two in a row or three over the course of two months), we'll have a conversation about whether or not our scheduled day and time works for you and/or if therapy is meeting your needs. Then we can deterimine if there are any helpful adjustments that can be made or if it is best to take a break from therapy for the time being.

  • How often do we meet? How long are sessions?

I reccommend begining with a structure of weekly sessions. This allows us the consistency and momentum to begin to see effective changes. Once you have started meeting your goals and seeing results, it may make sense to move to meeting on a bi-monthly basis.

Sessions are approximately 50 minutes long.

  • Is therapy confidential?

Therapy is entirely confidential, protected by HIPPA law, with the exception of threat of harm to yourself or another person (plans to actively hurt yourself of someone else or discolsure of child or elder abuse etc...).

I use a HIPPA protected and encrypted phone number, email, and electronic health records program.

  • What happens in a first session and in subsequent sessions?

Our first session is an assessment where I listen to your story, your reasons for seeking therapy, and what you are hoping to get out of the experience. I am also happy to share more about my style of working with clients and answer any questions you may have.

I aim to provide a warm and welcoming presence but understand that speaking to somebody you've never met can feel intimidating at first. You can feel free to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable. There is no rush.

Typically, the assessment process continues throughout the first several sessions as we get to know eachother. We will then define goals and create a treatment plan. I will check in periodically to ensure that our treatment plan is meeting your needs and helping you reach your goals.

  • What if therapy with me isn't a fit?

Thearpists have different personalities, aproaches, and styles. They come from a variety of backgrounds and have different strengths and specialties. It's important to find a therapist with whom you resonate. That might be me... and also it might not. That's okay! If at any time you feel that you want to go in a different direction, I will respect that choice and, if possible, do my best to help you find somebody who better suits your needs.
